Vintage Thread Spool Ornaments

I decided that since it's 'beginning to look a lot like Christmas,' it was time to bust out a Christmas-themed project.  So I came up with the idea of making these thread spool ornaments.  The project began simpler than it finished up, though.  Originally, I was just going to make a Santa ornament...but then he seemed lonely, so I made him 2 elves.  Then I decided they were incomplete without Rudolph...and then I decided that 4 ornaments were enough for now!

Baggy Suit to "Suitable" Bag!

I found this too-big-for-me wool suit for $3 on the last day of an estate sale and decided to try making a purse out of it.  It's a two-piece suit, so I decided I would also take in the skirt to prevent waste!

T-Shirt Stadium Seat

I've been looking forward to this project for several months.  I usually get pretty grumpy at football games because I can only pay attention to the game for so long before I get a little bored.  Plus, the seats are pretty uncomfortable, and I get fidgety.

So I planned to find a sweatshirt at a thrift shop and use it to make a comfy, one-of-a-kind stadium seat.  When I couldn't find an appropriate sweatshirt, I settled for an Under Armour t-shirt, size large.

Two New Stools

I found two old stools in need of some TLC and gave them a little bit of attention to make them suitable for use in my sewing room.  I had been looking for a beat-up old stool to use at my custom-made desk (which I'll get around to sharing eventually!) since I'd been using the same chair at the 3 different desks that are in my room - and I was getting tired of shuffling it around.

Coke Bottle Lamp and Bottle Cap Lampshade

This project began over the summer with a Coke bottle that has been displayed on a shelf above my desk for about 8 years.  I decided it was time to do something to make it useful, so after I discovered a cool lamp making kit online, I made a lamp out of it...which then created a need for a one-of-a-kind lampshade to go with it!

Wireless Router Book Cover

I've always thought our router was ugly.  It's in a prominent spot in our kitchen, due to the fact that at any given time, we have one or more computer using the wireless connection, and that computer could be upstairs above the garage, upstairs where the bedrooms are, downstairs in the kitchen or den, or outside on the patio or hammock.  And the kitchen was the central location.  So there it sits on our antique side table, looking ugly.

Souvenir Penny Charm Bracelet

While I was unpacking a few boxes of childhood treasures that came from my bedroom at my parents' house, I came across my souvenir penny collection, along with my American coin collection and some foreign money left over from trips to Europe.  I laid them all out on the ottoman where I could see them so I'd remember to think about what to do with them (out of sight, out of mind!).  With the foreign coins, I made magnets, but the souvenir coins seemed wrong for magnets.  So they sat there for a few months while I considered my options.

Antique Iron Bookend

Greetings from the road in West Virginia! We are heading back home to SC after visiting my oldest brother, who lives in the Pittsburgh area. He's lived up there for a little over two years, and we finally made it up for a visit! We brought the little dog along with us - his first-ever overnight road trip! He's mostly been sleeping in my lap (so my clothes smell pretty fantastic, despite the fact that he had a bath and haircut the day before we left!).

Vintage-y Skirt Refashion

I found this vintage-like linen skirt for either $.50 or $1.00 at a thrift shop last month.  I noticed it was a good quality (though a bit old) and pretty much knew immediately what I wanted to do with it when I saw it....but didn't know until AFTER I paid $9.00 to have dry cleaned whether or not it would fit (there was no way I was trying it on before I had it cleaned!).  Turns out, it did fit!  Darn good thing, after the dry cleaning bill turned out to be so high!!

Singer Sewing Machine Shelf and Drawers

When I saw the rusted old sewing machine base/frame as I left an antique store earlier this month, I knew I would buy it the next time I was there and crossed my fingers that no one else would have bought it in the meantime!

Removable Binder Cover

After a few months of dabbling in blogging, I realized I needed a notebook to keep up with ideas, projects, and plans.

I pulled out this old notebook that was once my mom's (and perhaps had been my grandfather's at some point?  I think it was something that he had used while he was in the Army) that I covered with bug wrapping paper when I was about ten years old.

Outdoor Projects

Confession:  I may have stared this post over two months ago. Ok, I DID start this post over two months ago.

It was late May, and the weather was nice so I spent the day outside working on some projects out on the patio I'd been wanting to do for a couple of months.  I found these ideas on Pinterest here and here.

I pass a Goodwill every day on my way home from work and have to talk myself out of stopping by pointing out to myself how many projects are on my to-do list with their materials scattered about my Yellow Room, taking up precious space and on occasion, making me feel a little crazy because I don't know what to do next!

Boogie Shoes

Again I have been absent for longer than intended.  It's hard to slow myself down enough to stop 'doing' in order to write (blog) about what it is that I do.  Since my last visit, we attended my cousin's wedding, went to Atlanta for the wedding of a family friend and a Braves game, took an anniversary trip to Mexico with our friends, who were also celebrating their anniversary, and went to the beach with my extended family.  Things seem to finally have slowed down enough for me to catch up!

Let Them Eat Cake, Volume 2

Well, it appears that I’ve been AWOL for a little while. It’s been busy.  Here are a few cute cakes that have come out of my kitchen since the original Let Them Eat Cake post.

My First Upholstery Project!

In my first post on this blog, I introduced you to my re-upholstery project, the Ugly Chair.  Having no experience with upholstery, and therefore no idea what I was getting myself into, I armed myself with this tutorial that I read before I began to get an idea of what I was doing, and got to work.

Let Them Eat Cake

cake design
Before I ever tried upholstery or making iPhone accessories, I tried decorating cakes. Growing up, we used the boxed cake and icing to make fun Christmas, Easter, and Fourth of July cakes.   Looking back, I realize they were nothing spectacular, but I always enjoyed making (and eating!!) them nonetheless.

Hello, online world.

Seeing as this is my first post and nothing and no one on Earth besides Google, my dog Rocky, and I know about this blog's creation, it would seem as though I'm talking to myself.  I'll change that when I'm ready. :)

I've been thinking for a while about creating a blog to share what I enjoy doing in my spare time - designing and creating Stuff.  "Stuff" includes, but is not limited to: making cakes and jewelry, sewing, and repurposing old/vintage/antique items (some would go so far as to refer to these items as 'junk,' but junk is one of my best friends!).
